Broadmoor Plaza is located on East 14th Street, which is San Leandro’s primary commercial corridor and public transit route. Residents can walk and take public transit to nearby community services and retail establishments.

In 1909, to celebrate the abundant cherry harvest, San Leandro held its first Cherry Festival, an event which was so successful it is still celebrated today. The San Leandro Farmer’s Market, located four blocks away, offers the best in fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., May through October.
San Leandro’s temperate weather makes it an excellent place for outdoor recreation. With an average temperature of 62 degrees, walking and other outdoor activities at any of the nearby parks is possible all year round.
The city of San Leandro, through the Marina Community and the Bancroft Senior Centers, offers a wide range of activities and services to the city’s older adults. Programs and activities are designed to promote and foster healthy independent living and build a sense of belonging and community among the seniors, caregivers and families. Programs include exercise and dance classes, arts and crafts classes and safety seminars, to name a few.
Many of Broadmoor Plaza’s residents take advantage of the abundance of public transportation options available to them. The AC Transit System has a bus stop located directly in front of the community. Some of Broadmoor Plaza’s residents use AC Transit to commute to Oakland, Hayward, Berkeley and other East Bay cities.
The San Leandro BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit System) Station is 7 blocks away from the community. BART can take residents to San Francisco and many other cities in the Bay Area.
The city of San Leandro also offers FLEX SHUTTLE, an affordable shuttle service for seniors ($20 annual registration fee required). The FLEX shuttle takes Broadmoor Plaza residents to the local library, the senior centers, Walmart, the downtown San Leandro Shopping Plaza and pre-arranged trips to doctor appointments. This shuttle charges $4 per ten miles each way for medical trips. It runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many residents also take advantage of the free shuttle at Broadmoor Plaza that exclusively takes residents to shopping and excursion trips.
From San Francisco - take the Bay Bridge toward I-580 E. Take the exit 31A toward Estudillo Avenue/Dutton Avenue. Merge onto MacArthur Blvd. Turn right on Dutton. Turn right on E14th Street.
From San Jose - and points in the South Bay take I-880 North toward Oakland. Take the Davis Street exit. Turn right at Davis Street. Turn left at E 14th Street.
From Oakland - take the CA-24 ramp to Walnut Creek/San Francisco/Hayward. Merge onto I-980. Take the exit unto I-580 E toward Hayward. Take exit 31A toward Estudillo Avenue/Dutton Avenue. Merge onto MacArthur Blvd. Turn right on Dutton. Turn right on E14th Street.
